March Photo Challenge: Loud
Great Day.
Great weather.
My stomach wanted grilled food and it was for sure loud today. I was running 10 miles with a good friend today and we were discussing food that would be good after the run. I wonder to myself why food always comes up when your running. My friends and I often discuss food while out for runs. A good friend of mine said she often thinks of Big Macs when running but she doesn't even really like the. Funny how your mind thinks so differently when your working our body hard.
The best part of warmer weather? Using your grill. Today after my run all I could think about was cooking something on my grill. I found some chicken breast tenderloins and grilled 3 pieces which ended up 4.8 oz. (of course Jason had steak. I respect steak lovers. I am just not one of them) We accompanied our meat with a potatoes...regular baked for him and sweet potato for me. I also enjoyed some asparagus it was still on sale so I was excited to have some more. I truly believe that one of the keys to saving money when eating healthy is buying in season. This meal probably only cost me about $3.00 and only 10 points plus values.
What is your favorite meal to cook on the grill?

Red and Basketball

I love sports.
I love college basketball in March.
I love the Cincinnati Bearcats.
I really love when the Bearcats win and they are supposed to.
In life there are many things we never dream of happening but in some cases we can make our dreams a reality. The only thing holding us back in ourselves. There is a quote my MaryKay Ash founder of Mary Kay cosmetics that says "Don't limit yourself. Many people limit themselves to what they think they can do. You can go as far as your mind lets you. What you believe, remember, you can achieve." Don't limit yourself. Even if the opponent is more talented, has taller players and the task seems out of reach. Go into the game prepared to win.
Make a game plan.
Put the plan into action.
Win.
Refuse to lose.
Made some Cincinnati style dinner while we watched the game tonight. During intense games it is nice to be at home. You can buy this here locally in the frozen section at Meijer. 7 points plus for a full cup or 4 points plus for 1/2 cup. Tonight I put in a bowl with two fat free hot dogs and 1/3 cup of weight watcher shredded cheese. Here is a link to an older blog post where I showed how we Cincinnatians (dinner cincinnati style) eat what we call coneys.

Blue Skies and Happy Days
March Photo Challenge Day 8: Window
The view from my kitchen window. Blue skies and sunshine. Beautiful. I ran 4 miles today and it felt amazing to be outside in the sunshine. I then came home and enjoyed a nail biting basketball game(which my team won in double overtime). I think I have had a few small heart attacks. Enjoy weather when you can. Today when taking this photo I saw a child/parent combination racing each other up and down the street. These are days and memories you can't take back.

Smile
Photo Challenge Day 5:
SMILE :)
A smile is a facial expression formed by flexing the muscles near both ends of the mouth.[1]

It can warm a heart, make a bad day better and change so many things. All you have to do is smile. My niece's grandmother post many pictures of her online. Her smile and innocence warms my heart every time. Smile at yourself once per day. Try to be say one positive thing to yourself everyday even if it is only a smile. It may change your entire day.

Creating Habits
They say to create a habit you have to do to make a commitment to the habit and practice the habit. Then naturally it becomes a habit.
Photo Challenge Day 4: Bedside... which side do you sleep on?
We all go to bed every night and naturally get into the side of the bed we sleep on. We do many things every day because they are naturally our habit. Then overtime we have to develop new habits.
There was article published back in the fall when we were about to roll out points plus 2012 at weight watchers that interviewed our CEO David Krichhoff. One of ideas he discusses in the interview is picking a few things in our daily lives that we know we need to make into new habits and focus on those. We talk sometimes about having re-frame aspects of our lives. For example there are many times in my life when I have made every excuse not to exercise and now I do it without even a second thought. I am almost always training for another event that requires me to stick to a schedule and I do my very best to stick with it. Today a fellow runner couldn't meet me for our run because she had caught a head cold. I could have just stayed home and enjoyed a nice quiet Sunday morning since I had already prepared my breakfast when she sent me the message she couldn't make it. However I didn't. I finished my breakfast and set out for my run because that was my plan. I got my "run" (exercise) out of the way. I was able to enjoy the rest of the day without worrying about when I was going to get in my run. Although setting a running plan might not be a habit your are looking to create I often say that is this is a great metaphor for any habit. Most people cannot go and run a 26.2 mile marathon on a whim. However with proper training and will many can.
What is your "marathon" and what do you need to do to cross the finish line? More importantly can you? Will you?

Neighborhood
March Photo Challenge Day 3: Your Neighborhood.
Here is a picture down my street from my front porch.
The one thing I really like about my neighborhood is that it is great for a quick run around if I need to. There are lots of my neighbors that get out and walk or jog around. I also really love how close we are to a trail through Merrillville that allows me to get in longer runs. Being able to walk back in my front door after a run is great. One of things I love about Northwest Indiana is our running community. For more information about local runs check out either of these links:
Calumet Striders
NWI Region Runners
What is your neighborhood like?

Today I went out to the Foot Pursuit 5K. It was a muddy good time. The trail was so muddy from all of the rain we had this week but everyone had a great time. The police departments from Porter County really put on a great run out at Sunset Hill. Was it my best race ever? Not by far. I did have a good time and I really like being able to challenge myself with something different.
Is it a good one for getting out and being able to get in some exercise? What are you challenging yourself with today?
